RB Leipzig’s title challenge in the Bundesliga now appears to be over. However, they will be looking to end the season strongly to ensure that the gap between themselves and Bayern Munich isn’t a considerable one.

RB Leipzig looked to have gotten themselves into an excellent position to challenge for the Bundesliga title a couple of weeks ago. However, that strong form that they had shown has quickly evaporated. Leipzig come into this fixture at the weekend ten points behind Bayern Munich, and may be sweating slightly on their position in second. Wolfsburg have closed to within four points of Leipzig, and defeat for the hosts this weekend could see their position as the runners-up brought into doubt. Leipzig are currently in their worst run of form of the season so far, as they have lost two of their last four, and have won just twice in their last six. Furthermore, they haven’t won in their last two. Leipzig were beaten by FC Köln in midweek. Amadou Haidara scored the only goal for Leipzig in that game, but they were only on level terms for less than a minute.

Stuttgart still have an outside chance of getting into the European battle this season, but their recent form hasn’t exactly helped their chances of achieving that. They have lost their last three, and have picked up just one win in their previous five Bundesliga fixtures. That run of form has seen them drop to tenth in the standings, and they are now eight points off the Europa League spots with six games remaining this season. They were beaten by Wolfsburg in their last league fixture, as they were handed a 3-1 home defeat. Gonzalo Castro scored a late consolation goal in that defeat in the 91st minute.

This will be the sixth meeting between Stuttgart and Leipzig since 2017 in the Bundesliga. Leipzig have won four of the meetings, while there has been one draw. Leipzig won the meeting between the sides in January, with Dani Olmo scoring the only goal.
